An introduction to craniosacral therapy—and to the practice downstairs from us doing genuinely exceptional work with it

Here’s what you need to know: there's a craniosacral therapy (CST) practice in the same building as Very Well, literally one floor below us. They're called Nourish and Align, and we've gotten to know their work and are genuinely impressed. We'd like more of our clients to know about them!.

CST has been building a serious following among people dealing with chronic pain, stress, lingering tension, exhaustion, and more.

OK, so what's actually happening?

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that works with the central nervous system. Using an extraordinarily light touch, a trained therapist literally listens to your body. By placing their hands along you, a CST practitioner can pick up on subtle rhythms in the cerebrospinal fluid—the fluid that surrounds and protects your brain and spinal cord. When that rhythm gets disrupted by injury, stress, trauma, or chronic tension, the whole system can feel off. CST helps restore the natural flow.

Sessions happen with the client fully clothed, on a massage table in a quiet, private room. The work itself is subtle. The effects, for many people, are not. They tend to describe a deep sense of calm during and after a session—a kind of settling that's hard to find elsewhere (outside of Very Well, of course!—although our therapies powerfully complement and enhance each other).

Who's it for?

The focus at Nourish and Align is whole-body wellness and stress relief. So whether you're an athlete managing physical demands, an adult navigating chronic tension, or someone whose nervous system has been running on overdrive for too long… CST meets you where you are.

The most common reasons adults walk in the door: chronic headaches and migraines, neck and back pain, TMJ dysfunction, post-concussion recovery, stress and burnout, sleep disturbances, and the lingering effects of physical or emotional trauma.

(Nourish and Align also very effectively treats children, for those of you looking for gentle but effective modalities for your kids!)

The folks doing the work

This is the part I really love, getting to introduce you to two of the most wonderful people (and best practitioners) I know: Kate and Austin. The team at Nourish and Align brings rare and well-rounded expertise to what they do.

Austin Rees offers an integrated approach that weaves CST together with SomatoEmotional Release and Reiki. SomatoEmotional Release helps the body let go of the residual effects of past trauma and difficult emotional experiences stored in the tissues. Reiki balances the body's energy, deepens relaxation, and amplifies the rest of the work. Which of the three—and in what proportion—shows up in your session gets sorted out in an intake conversation beforehand.

Kate Hudak holds a BA in Athletic Training and Sports Psychology and an MS in Kinesiology (Athletic Training/Sports Medicine). Her work with adult clients centers on whole-body wellness and stress relief, with particular attention to the nervous system, stress and burnout recovery, and TMJ and jaw dysfunction. She understands how the demands of adult life accumulate in the body—and, more importantly, how to help the system actually release it.

We're genuinely proud to share a building with practitioners of this caliber. If you've been curious about CST, Nourish and Align is a wonderful place to start.

Visit Nourish and Align's website to learn more and book a session… and tell them we sent you.
